National Hispanic Heritage Month is a period from September 15th to October 15th in which we recognize the contributions and influence of Latino and Hispanic Americans to the rich history, culture, and achievements of the United States.

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. National Hispanic Heritage Month was first proclaimed by President George H. W. Bush on September 14, 1989.

You can celebrate by taking a moment to learn more about Hispanic history and by engaging in meaningful conversations about the culture.
